Future Quest June 2009

This was my third year going to Future Quest, and the best year by far. Not only did I learn amazing things about God and life in general, but I made some of the best friends ever over the three days.
For those of you who don’t know, Future Quest is a Christian Youth Conference for Jr. High, Highschool and young College students. Every day you have a meeting in the morning and at night with guest speakers who help you learn more about Jesus, His disciples, and God. You are learning, at the same time, how to be better Christians in today’s world. Every day you also go to one workshop of your choice and each workshop is on a certain topic. The workshops I went to were entitled “;Pornography: Dangerous, Addictive, and Destructive” (which taught me more about how porn was dangerous to today’s society and information to tell my friends how dangerous porn really is), “Dealing With Divorce” (which helped me find way to overcome the pain that comes with parents divorcing) and “Rescuing Friends From Suicide, Drugs, Alcohol and Cutting” (which taught me ways to help friends with these problems). But other than those activities we also got about 4 hours of free time every day where food and snacks were supplied (candy galore!) and where we could either walk or take the busses provided to Boomers, Parkway Bowl, Parkway Plaza or Youth Venture. They also had Paintball and Airsoft and a DJ Lounge and an awesome game room with pool, guitar hero, Xbox 360 and Wii.
Like I said, this year was amazing and the guest speakers were great and the lessons and worship were life-changing. I cried so much. But this year I also learned what it meant to have a group of friends who would always have my back. Over the three days I made friends with a group of misfits who all joined together as a family. There were about 12 of us in all, and eight of us would hardly ever go anywhere without each other. We all came up with nick-names (my name was Shortie) and we did everything together, never getting into arguments about what to do or where to go. Although there was some outside drama that was brought into our group everyone handled it well and by the end of each night everyone was happy. We all shared our lives with one another, our fears and thoughts about who we are, our faith, and the future. I got to help out a lot of the friends in my FQ Family and I also rekindled friendships with a friend I met last year at FQ and another friend I’ve known for a long time but slowly grew apart from Sophomore year.
I will never forget my experience at Future Quest A.D. (Year of Our Lord) 2009, the things I did, the things I learned, and the friends I made. This blog is dedicated to Ghost, Luckie Starz, Babie, Sparkz, BlackJack, Snootz, States and many more.
